Beth Shipley is a visual artist whose practice is grounded in the language of abstraction and the mediums painting and drawing. She received an MFA from Pratt Institute in Painting and Art Criticism and a BS from Skidmore College in Studio Art. Her work has been exhibited extensively in the US and abroad, including solo exhibitions at the Solar Grandjean de Montigny, Universidada Catolica do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Westminster Gallery, Bloomfield College, NJ, AZ Project Space, NYC and group exhibitions at Whitelight Contemporary, NM; Park Place Gallery, Brooklyn; Silvermine Gallery, New Canaan; Mid-Atlantic Painting Biennial, MD; Islip Art Museum, NY; and many others.
Her work has received support from numerous grants and residency fellowships. These include project grants from Change, Inc; Marymount Manhattan College; and the City University of New York and residency fellowships from the Virginia Center of the Creative Arts; Helene Wurlitzer Foundation; Jentel Foundation; RAiR Foundation Historic Studios; Hambidge Center for Creative Arts; Nave/New Works (Ecuador); Byrdcliffe Artist-in-Residence; Alfred and Trafford Klots International Foundation (France); Vermont Studio Center; Fundacion Valparaiso (Spain).
She currently teaches as an Associate Professor of Art at Marymount Manhattan College and serves as the Director of the Judith Mara Carson Center for the Visual Arts at MMC.
